University of Arizona Student Teacher Outreach Mentorship Program (S.T.O.M.P.)
About
Welcome to the home of the University of Arizona's S.T.O.M.P. This program is dedicated to promoting STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) education from the Elementary through the University level by partnering University Students and Faculty with K-12 Classrooms. We are part of the STOMP network originated by the Tufts University Center for Engineering Educational Outreach. Our STOMP fellows are also supported by the Arizona Space Grant Consortium (www.spacegrant.arizona.edu/).
Overview
The partnership begins with the University Students assisting teachers design interactive STEM lessons. They then visit the classrooms and aid in lesson presentation, acting as a source of engineering knowledge for the classroom. Over a year of partnership, the K-12 classrooms and teachers will become comfortable with STEM education. The K-12 teachers will be able to contine to incorporate STEM education in their curriculum with the knowledge they gain from the University partnership. S.T.O.M.P. sustains and improves STEM education in K-12 education.
